Are the Council's own bin-men any neater than May Gurney's oppos ? No !

Before the bin men came to call:-

And afterwards, bins all over the pavement, try getting a pram or a wheelchair along the street.

Its this sort of thing which people remember and don't like. They think if the Council can't even put a bin back how can they outsource 70% of the jobs.

Yours frugally

Mr Mustard

  1. Have you only got one lamp post in your street, Mr Mustard? Is this part of the cost saving lighting scheme heading our way, do you think? Or is it because you are still only an apprentice blogger and not in need of Guantanamo levels of lighting outside your bedroom window yet?

  2. Very observant Mrs A but there are 6. Not sure if we meet the standard set out in BS5489 - I will have to pop off and check now.

Have I been sleeping with my head in the clouds again, way above the level of streetlights ? which is actually true although it took me 2 years and 4 applications to convince the planning department that my loft conversion using mansards was far more elegant than those hideous dormers that they love. Apologies if your house has a hideous dormer !

  3. What's wrong with hideous dormers. Barnet insisted we had one

  4. We'll have to start calling you "Mr Mansard"!

I had to look it up.

But then, as you know, "The Mansard style makes maximum use of the interior space of an attic, and offers a simple way to add one or more storeys to an existing (or new) building, without necessarily requiring any masonry. Often the decorative potential of the Mansard is exploited through the use of convex or concave curvature, and with elaborate dormer window surrounds."
